We all know that the performance of an object depends upon the parts of machinery from which it is made. So, this phenomenon is also applied to firearms. A firearm needs all its parts to be perfect for use. A muzzle brake is one of those parts which help in the accuracy and recoiling of the gun. A muzzle brake is a part of a firearm that allows a smooth shooting experience. But, the problem is that many people don’t know how to install it. So, this is why we are presenting you this content so you could learn how to install a brake to a muzzle? Or which muzzle brake is the best.

What is a Muzzle Brake and How to Install it Correctly?

A muzzle brake is a device also known as a recoiling compensator. A muzzle is a device attached to the opening of a firearm.  A brake comes in interaction when the gun fires a bullet because it helps recoiling and unwanted muzzle rise.

What is the design of a muzzle brake?

The design of a muzzle brake is simple. It is a pint-sized tube shape. Its primary purpose is to control the recoil and rise of the barrel, which is seen normally after shooting.

What things should we see before choosing a muzzle brake?

While choosing a muzzle brake, the things you should look at are:

  • Length:

The length of a barrel is significant because if its length is short, it will be of less use, meaning it will damage your weapon. The size of a barrel can be from 1.5 to 16 inches.

  • Weight and size:

The weight and size don’t matter much because it depends upon the strength of the weapon.

  • Obstruction:

You should be careful while choosing a muzzle brake, and after installing it, you should take good care of it. Because some muzzle brakes might get stuck or any other problem occurs. These problems arise, especially in open tine design. So, it would be best if you were very careful.

  • Compensators:

You must be very careful while choosing a compensator. Choose a compensator that has a strong attachment of baffles so that they could withstand a muzzle strike.

How to Install a Muzzle Brake?

There are mainly three types of washers: a crush washer, peel washer, and a nutshell washer. Nutshell washers are not preferred much, but the rest of the two are great. We will discuss the two other washers in this content. Now you choose a muzzle brake, the perfect one for your rifle, but you don’t know how to install it. No worries, just read further, and you will know how to install it:

  1. Crush washer:

The things you need to install it are:

  • Crush washer
  • A wrench
  • A masking tape

Procedure:

  • Then take the wrench and cover its claws with masking tape to damage the rifle end.
  • Now, every rifle consists of a thread protector at the end of every rifle. Unscrew it.
  • Insert the crush washer on the thread. So, a crush washer has two sides, a beveled side and coned side. Make sure the bevel side goes towards the receiver. Be careful while inserting a crushed washer. It should be inserted on the right side, or else problems will arise.
  • Now, thread your brake on to make sure its slots are facing upwards, not downwards. If they are facing downward, then the whole point of installing the muzzle brake will be finished. Because the slots are present so that the gas escapes and the muzzle doesn’t rise.
  • Now, adjust the brake placement according to the slots and tighten it with the help of a wrench, and your brake is fixed on your rifle.

2.Peelwasher:

The things you need to install it are:

  • Peel crusher
  • Crescent wrench
  • Red Loctite
  • Razorblade or a good knife with a nit
  • Lighter Calipers

Procedure:

  • The first thing is to hold the rifle carefully and make sure it is unloaded.
  • Now take the thread protector off and insert the muzzle brake, and with a peel washer, jam it.
  • Now, we want the large flat to be at both the bottom and the smaller flat to be upright.
  • The next step is to see how much gap is present between the brake and receiver.
  • Now, peel off the layer or layers of the peel washer with the help of the blade or knife. The peeling depends upon the distance present between the brake and receiver.
  • Peel the layer one at a time because peeling two layers together is a tough job.
  • After peeling the layer, heat it, and without letting it cool down, take your brake off and screw in the washer. It will attack the thread, so you don’t need to tighten it much. Now insert the muzzle brake and tighten it with a wrench, and the brake is fixed.
